Palm Kernel Oil Market Size in Japan

The Japanese palm kernel oil market declined rapidly to $X in 2019, waning by -X% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Overall, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2011 when the market value increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, exports attained the maximum at X tonnes in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2019, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, palm kernel oil exports dropped sharply to $X in 2019. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, exports attained the peak of $X. From 2013 to 2019, the growth exports failed to regain the momentum.

Exports by Country

Indonesia (X tonnes) was the main destination for palm kernel oil exports from Japan, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, palm kernel oil exports to Indonesia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Denmark (X tonnes), twofold. The Netherlands (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2019, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Indonesia totaled +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Denmark (+X% per year) and the Netherlands (+X% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for palm kernel oil exported from Japan were China ($X), Mexico ($X) and Indonesia ($X), together comprising X% of total exports.

Indonesia (+X% per year) saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average palm kernel oil export price stood at $X per tonne in 2019, which is down by -X% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a perceptible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, average export prices reached the maximum at $X per tonne in 2018, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2019, the country with the highest price was China ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Lao People's Democratic Republic ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2019, imports of palm kernel and babassu oil into Japan reduced to X tonnes, waning by -X% compared with the year before. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tonnes in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2019, imports remained at a lower figure.
