In 2022, the Japanese metal solid fuel appliances market decreased by -12.6% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year rising trend. The exports peaked at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, metal solid fuel appliances exports surged to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a slight contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 171% against the previous year. From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +139.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X), Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) and Vietnam ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for metal solid fuel appliances exported from Japan worldwide, together comprising 58% of total exports. In terms of the main countries of destination, the Netherlands, with a CAGR of +148.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average metal solid fuel appliances export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, which is down by -2.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, metal solid fuel appliances export price decreased by -7.8% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average export price increased by 58% against the previous year. Imports into Japan

After four years of growth, purchases abroad of iron or steel solid fuel domestic appliances decreased by -28.4% to X units in 2022. In general, imports showed a slight descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X units in 2021, and then dropped significantly in the following year.

In value terms, metal solid fuel appliances imports shrank to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a measured increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 55%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then declined in the following year.

In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest metal solid fuel appliances supplier to Japan, accounting for a 40% share of total imports. Moreover, metal solid fuel appliances imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (X units), fourfold. The second position in the ranking was held by the United States ($X), with a 10% share of total imports. It was followed by Belgium, with a 9.5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from China amounted to +12.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (-7.0% per year) and Belgium (+2.9% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average metal solid fuel appliances import price amounted to $X per unit, growing by 29% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a notable increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, metal solid fuel appliances import price increased by +90.0% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 41%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
