Carpet Market Size in Japan

The revenue of the carpet market in Japan amounted to $X in 2018, coming down by -X% against the previous year. Overall, the total market indicated a temperate expansion from 2007 to 2018: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last eleven-year period. These countries were followed by Indonesia, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, India and Taiwan, Chinese, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of exports, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by India, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for carpet exported from Japan were China ($X), Viet Nam ($X) and Australia ($X), together comprising X% of total exports. In that year, the average export prices for carpets and other textile floor coverings reached their peak level of $X per tonne. From 2010 to 2018, the growth in terms of the average export prices for carpets and other textile floor coverings failed to regain its momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2018, the country with the highest price was Taiwan, Chinese ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to India, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, carpet imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. In that year, carpet imports reached their peak of X tonnes. From 2013 to 2018, the growth of carpet imports failed to regain its momentum.

In value terms, carpet imports totaled $X in 2018. In general, carpet imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2018, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2018, China (X tonnes) constituted the largest carpet supplier to Japan, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, carpet imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Viet Nam (X tonnes), sixfold. Thailand (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total imports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual growth rate of volume from China was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Viet Nam (+X% per year) and Thailand (-X% per year).

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2018, the highest prices were recorded for prices from India ($X per tonne) and Belgium ($X per tonne), while the price for Indonesia ($X per tonne) and Turkey ($X per tonne) were amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
