Exports from Japan

For the eleventh consecutive year, Japan recorded growth in shipments abroad of artificial teeth, which increased by 76% to X units in 2022. In general, exports showed a significant expansion. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, artificial teeth exports shrank remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

China (X units) was the main destination for artificial teeth exports from Japan, with a 56% share of total exports. Moreover, artificial teeth exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, South Korea (X units), fourfold. The United States (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 8.9% share.

From 2020 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to China stood at +143.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: South Korea (+84.0% per year) and the United States (-20.7% per year).

In value terms, China ($X) remains the key foreign market for artificial teeth exports from Japan, comprising 56% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Korea ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by the United States, with an 8.9% share.

From 2020 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to China amounted to +36.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: South Korea (+3.0% per year) and the United States (-55.6% per year).

In 2022, the average artificial teeth export price amounted to $X per unit, with a decrease of -62.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price faced a sharp contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 a decrease of -15.1%.
