In value terms, cattle hide and skin exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt contraction. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

China (X tons), Austria (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main destinations of cattle hide and skin exports from Italy, with a combined 46% share of total exports. France, Slovakia, Spain, the Czech Republic, Nigeria, Indonesia, Poland, the Netherlands, Slovenia and Togo lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 49%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Nigeria (with a CAGR of +47.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

From 2014 to 2021, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Togo ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Among the main suppliers, Argentina, with a CAGR of +113.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average cattle hide and skin import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 44%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the price for Argentina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
