Over the period under review, total exports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last nine-year period. Melon imports into Italy totaled X tonnes in 2021, approximately equating 2020 figures. Overall, imports, however, showed a noticeable contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of X% y-o-y. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tonnes. From 2020 to 2021, the growth imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, melon imports stood at $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

The Netherlands (X tonnes), Brazil (X tonnes) and Spain (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of melon imports to Italy, with a combined X% share of total imports. These countries were followed by France, Costa Rica, Greece and Senegal, which together accounted for a further X 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Senegal (+X%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
