Hop Market Size in Italy

In 2020, after six years of growth, there was significant decline in the Italian hop market, when its value decreased by -X% to $X. Overall, consumption, however, posted a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2011 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2019, and then reduced in the following year.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, exports attained the peak figure at X tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, hop exports declined to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of X% y-o-y. As a result, exports attained the peak of $X. from 2018 to 2020, the growth exports remained at a lower figure.

The U.S. (X tonnes) was the main destination for hop exports from Italy, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, hop exports to the U.S. exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, France (X tonnes), sevenfold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Slovenia (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the U.S. amounted to +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (-X% per year) and Slovenia (+X% per year).

In value terms, the U.S. ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for hop exports from Italy, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by France ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Slovenia, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of value to the U.S. stood at +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (-X% per year) and Slovenia (+X% per year).

The average hop export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, reducing by -X% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of X% year-to-year. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2019, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was France ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Malta ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Serbia, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tonnes in 2019, and then contracted significantly in the following year.

In value terms, hop imports reached $X in 2020. In general, imports, however, saw a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2020 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In 2020, Germany (X tonnes) was the main hop supplier to Italy, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, hop imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belgium (X tonnes), more than tenfold.
