In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a slight downturn. Fruit Flour Exports

Exports from Italy

After two years of growth, overseas shipments of fruit flour decreased by -14.3% to X tons in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +1.1% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 26% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, fruit flour exports reduced to $X in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 23%. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

Exports by Country

France (X tons) was the main destination for fruit flour exports from Italy, with a 30% share of total exports. Moreover, fruit flour exports to France exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X tons), twofold. Switzerland (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 9.8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to France stood at +10.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (-5.7% per year) and Switzerland (+1.7% per year).

In 2022, the average fruit flour export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 2.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the average export price increased by 26% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, purchases abroad of fruit flour increased by 24% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 63%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, fruit flour imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 44%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Spain (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and the UK (X tons) were the main suppliers of fruit flour imports to Italy, with a combined 71% share of total imports. Senegal, Germany, Tunisia, Sri Lanka, the Netherlands, Turkey, Malaysia, Luxembourg and Brazil lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 24%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Tunisia (with a CAGR of +156.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Spain ($X) constituted the largest supplier of fruit flour to Italy, comprising 47% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Spain totaled +12.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+6.2% per year) and Vietnam (-8.1% per year).
