Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, wood pellets imports contracted sharply to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 703% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Belgium (X tons) was the main wood pellets supplier to Iran, with a 93% share of total imports. Moreover, wood pellets imports from Belgium exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (X tons), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Belgium totaled +25.2%.

In value terms, Belgium ($X) constituted the largest supplier of wood pellets to Iran, comprising 89% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with an 11% share of total imports.

In 2021, the average wood pellets import price amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period.
