Melon Market Size in Iran

In 2020, the Iranian melon market was finally on the rise to reach $X after seven years of decline. Overall, consumption showed a deep setback. The melon harvested area peaked at X ha in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, the harvested area stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Melon exports from Iran reduced markedly to X tonnes in 2020, which is down by -X% against 2019. In general, exports showed a slight contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. Exports peaked at X tonnes in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, melon exports fell dramatically to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports saw a perceptible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Exports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

The United Arab Emirates (X tonnes), Oman (X tonnes) and Qatar (X tonnes) were the main destinations of melon exports from Iran, together accounting for X% of total exports.

From 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Oman, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for melon exported from Iran were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Oman ($X) and Qatar ($X), together comprising X% of total exports.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Kuwait ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Qatar ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Oman, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Iran

Melon imports into Iran rose markedly to X tonnes in 2020, surging by X% on the previous year's figure. In general, imports continue to indicate a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2020 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, melon imports reduced to $X in 2020. Overall, imports continue to indicate significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by X% year-to-year.
