Pig Iron Market Size in Indonesia

Exports peaked in 2020 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, pig iron exports surged to $X in 2020. Overall, exports continue to indicate notable growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Exports peaked in 2020 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Taiwan (Chinese) (X tonnes) was the main destination for pig iron exports from Indonesia, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, pig iron exports to Taiwan (Chinese) exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Thailand (X tonnes), threefold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by India (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume to Taiwan (Chinese) amounted to +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Thailand (+X% per year) and India (+X% per year).

In value terms, Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for pig iron exports from Indonesia, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by India ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by South Korea, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Taiwan (Chinese) stood at +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: India (-X% per year) and South Korea (+X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average pig iron export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, falling by -X% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per tonne in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Singapore ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to India, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Indonesia

For the fourth consecutive year, Indonesia recorded decline in purchases abroad of pig iron and spiegeleisen, which decreased by -X% to X tonnes in 2020. Over the period under review, imports saw a precipitous curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, pig iron imports shrank sharply to $X in 2020. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. Imports peaked at $X in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Russia (X tonnes), Ukraine (X tonnes) and Australia (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of pig iron imports to Indonesia, with a combined X% share of total imports.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Australia, while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, the largest pig iron suppliers to Indonesia were Russia ($X), Australia ($X) and Ukraine ($X), together comprising X% of total imports.

Among the main suppliers, Australia saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2020, the average pig iron import price amounted to $X per tonne, picking up by X% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011 when the average import price increased by X% y-o-y. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per tonne. From 2012 to 2020, the growth in terms of the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2020, the highest prices were recorded for prices from Japan ($X per tonne) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per tonne), while the price for Brazil ($X per tonne) and Ukraine ($X per tonne) were amongst the lowest.
