Melon Market Size in Indonesia

The revenue of the melon market in Indonesia amounted to $X in 2018, jumping by X% against the previous year. From 2016 to 2018, the growth of melon exports failed to regain its momentum.

In value terms, melon exports totaled $X in 2018. Over the period under review, melon exports continue to indicate a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. In that year, melon exports reached their peak of $X. From 2016 to 2018, the growth of melon exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Singapore (X tonnes) was the main destination for melon exports from Indonesia, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, melon exports to Singapore exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Brunei Darussalam (X tonnes), more than tenfold. The U.S. (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Singapore amounted to +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Brunei Darussalam (+X% per year) and the U.S. (+X% per year).

In value terms, Singapore ($X) remains the key foreign market for melon exports from Indonesia, comprising X% of total melon exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Brunei Darussalam ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by China, Hong Kong SAR, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Singapore amounted to +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Brunei Darussalam (+X% per year) and China, Hong Kong SAR (+X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2018, the average melon export price amounted to $X per tonne, jumping by X% against the previous year. Over the last eleven-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008 an increase of X% y-o-y. The export price peaked in 2018 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was China, Hong Kong SAR ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China, Hong Kong SAR, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Melon Imports

Imports into Indonesia

In 2018, the melon imports into Indonesia amounted to X tonnes, reducing by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, melon imports continue to indicate an abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2012 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2010; however, from 2011 to 2018, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, melon imports amounted to $X in 2018. Overall, melon imports continue to indicate a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2012 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Imports peaked at $X in 2010; however, from 2011 to 2018, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2018, Viet Nam (X tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of melon to Indonesia, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, melon imports from Viet Nam exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Singapore (X tonnes), eightfold.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Viet Nam amounted to -X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Singapore (-X% per year) and Australia (-X% per year).

In value terms, the largest melon suppliers to Indonesia were Viet Nam ($X), Singapore ($X) and Australia ($X), together comprising X% of total imports.

Singapore experienced the highest rates of growth with regard to imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the last eleven years, while the other leaders experienced a decline.

Import Prices by Country

In 2018, the average melon import price amounted to $X per tonne, picking up by X% against the previous year. In general, the import price indicated a buoyant expansion from 2007 to 2018: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2018 figures, melon import price decreased by -X% against 2016 indices.
