Concentrated Pineapple Juice Exports

Exports from Indonesia

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of concentrated pineapple juice, when their volume increased by 16% to X tons. Overall, total exports indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 79% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, concentrated pineapple juice exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +63.5% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 43%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

The Netherlands (X tons), the United States (X tons) and Australia (X tons) were the main destinations of concentrated pineapple juice exports from Indonesia, with a combined 67% share of total exports. Spain, Saudi Arabia, the UK, New Zealand, the United Arab Emirates, Canada, Singapore, Nigeria, Japan and Pakistan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 28%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Nigeria (with a CAGR of +786.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for concentrated pineapple juice exported from Indonesia were the Netherlands ($X), the United States ($X) and Australia ($X), together comprising 66% of total exports. These countries were followed by Spain, Saudi Arabia, the UK, the United Arab Emirates, New Zealand, Canada, Singapore, Nigeria, Japan and Pakistan, which together accounted for a further 30%.

Among the main countries of destination, Nigeria, with a CAGR of +1,063.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average concentrated pineapple juice export price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 6.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price posted a moderate increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 49% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the countries with the highest prices were the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) and Australia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($X per ton) and New Zealand ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Nigeria (+31.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Indonesia

In 2021, purchases abroad of concentrated pineapple juice was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, faced a deep downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 134%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, concentrated pineapple juice imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt slump. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Thailand (X tons), Singapore (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of concentrated pineapple juice imports to Indonesia, together accounting for 93% of total imports. These countries were followed by Italy and Germany, which together accounted for a further 6.4%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Italy (with a CAGR of +169.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, Singapore ($X), Thailand ($X) and China ($X) appeared to be the largest concentrated pineapple juice suppliers to Indonesia, together comprising 86% of total imports. These countries were followed by Italy and Germany, which together accounted for a further 12%.

Italy, with a CAGR of +142.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

Import Prices by Country

The average concentrated pineapple juice import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 11% against the previous year. Overall, the import price posted resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by 83% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+309.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
