Exports from India
After two years of decline, overseas shipments of sulphides, polysulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates increased by 49% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Turkey (X tons) was the main destination for sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates exports from India, accounting for a 31% share of total exports. Moreover, sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates exports to Turkey exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Bangladesh (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Brazil (X tons), with an 8.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Turkey totaled +10.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bangladesh (+32.1% per year) and Brazil (+32.0% per year).
In value terms, Turkey ($X) remains the key foreign market for sulphides, polysulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates exports from India, comprising 29% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($X), with an 8.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Bangladesh, with a 6.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Turkey stood at +11.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (-1.1% per year) and Bangladesh (+31.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 15%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Mexico ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Taiwan (Chinese) (+6.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Sulphides, Polysulphides, Dithionites And Sulphoxylates
Imports into India
In 2021, purchases abroad of sulphides, polysulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates decreased by -67.7% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports recorded a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 23% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates imports contracted remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 56%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates to India, accounting for a 81% share of total imports. Moreover, sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by South Korea (X tons), with a 3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China amounted to -12.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (-5.5% per year) and South Korea (-2.9% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sulphides, polysulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates to India, comprising 46% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Italy ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Austria, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from China totaled -7.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+69.9% per year) and Austria (+10.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average sulphides, dithionites and sulphoxylates import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 138% against the previous year. Overall, the import price enjoyed a strong expansion. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+14.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
