In 2020, the Indian palm kernel oil market decreased by -X% to $X, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, consumption showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, exports attained the maximum at X tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, palm kernel oil exports dropped sharply to $X in 2020. In general, exports recorded a pronounced decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports reached the maximum at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Nepal (X tonnes), Singapore (X tonnes) and the UK (X tonnes) were the main destinations of palm kernel oil exports from India, with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Australia, Bangladesh, Russia, the U.S., New Zealand, Oman, Qatar, Canada, Switzerland and Hong Kong SAR, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Bangladesh (+X% per year), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Nepal ($X), Singapore ($X) and the UK ($X) constituted the largest markets for palm kernel oil exported from India worldwide, together accounting for X% of total exports. Australia, the U.S., Bangladesh, New Zealand, Russia, Oman, Canada, Hong Kong SAR, Switzerland and Qatar lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X terms of the main countries of destination, Bangladesh (+X% per year) saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average palm kernel oil export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, with an increase of X% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of X% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2020 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was the U.S. ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Qatar ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Oman, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

As a result, imports attained the peak of X tonnes. from 2014 to 2020, the growth imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, palm kernel oil imports shrank to $X in 2020. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

Indonesia (X tonnes) and Malaysia (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of palm kernel oil imports to India.
