Exports from India

For the tenth consecutive year, India recorded growth in shipments abroad of frozen potatoes prepared or preserved, which increased by 51% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, exports posted significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 128% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, preserved frozen potato exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 128%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

Thailand (X tons), the Philippines (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) were the main destinations of preserved frozen potato exports from India, with a combined 83% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Indonesia (with a CAGR of +592.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into India

In 2021, the amount of frozen potatoes prepared or preserved imported into India fell dramatically to X tons, waning by -80.7% against the previous year's figure. In general, imports recorded a sharp descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 162%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, preserved frozen potato imports dropped rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a sharp shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 127%. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, the Netherlands (X tons) constituted the largest preserved frozen potato supplier to India, with a 74% share of total imports. Moreover, preserved frozen potato imports from the Netherlands exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the UK (X tons), threefold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the Netherlands amounted to -37.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the UK (-29.4% per year) and Belgium (-54.2% per year).

The average preserved frozen potato import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, approximately equating the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
