In 2021, purchases abroad of desktop computers increased by 114% to X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports posted buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 133%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, desktop computer imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a tangible expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 126% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Hong Kong SAR (X units), China (X units) and Taiwan (Chinese) (X units) were the main suppliers of desktop computer imports to India, together accounting for 88% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Hong Kong SAR (with a CAGR of +28.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of desktop computer to India, comprising 45% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Hong Kong SAR ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Taiwan (Chinese), with an 8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from China totaled +11.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hong Kong SAR (+22.7% per year) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+8.6% per year).

The average desktop computer import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, waning by -8.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a slight descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average import price increased by 12%. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
