Roasted Coffee Market Size in Hungary
The Hungarian roasted coffee market fell sharply to $X in 2021, declining by -16.4% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then fell notably in the following year.

In value terms, roasted coffee production contracted modestly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production recorded a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the production volume increased by 8.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, shipments abroad of roasted coffee was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, saw a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, roasted coffee exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 40% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Romania (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) were the main destinations of roasted coffee exports from Hungary, with a combined 75% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Poland, Ukraine, Serbia and Germany, which together accounted for a further 22%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Serbia (with a CAGR of +49.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for roasted coffee exported from Hungary were Romania ($X), Slovakia ($X) and Poland ($X), with a combined 72% share of total exports. These countries were followed by the Czech Republic, Serbia, Ukraine and Germany, which together accounted for a further 24%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Serbia, with a CAGR of +53.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average roasted coffee export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 13% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 18%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Serbia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+3.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Hungary
After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of roasted coffee increased by 10% to X tons in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -0.5% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 30% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, roasted coffee imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 44%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Slovakia (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main suppliers of roasted coffee imports to Hungary, with a combined 67% share of total imports. Italy, Bulgaria, Austria, France, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 28%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Bulgaria (with a CAGR of +81.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Slovakia ($X), Germany ($X) and Poland ($X) appeared to be the largest roasted coffee suppliers to Hungary, with a combined 57% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Italy, France, Bulgaria, Austria, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic, which together accounted for a further 34%.
Among the main suppliers, Bulgaria, with a CAGR of +61.9%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average roasted coffee import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 10% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 15%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+1.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
