Battery Market Size in Hungary

The Hungarian battery market fell sharply to $X in 2020, waning by -X% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a slight increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of X% y-o-y. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2019 to 2020, the growth of the market failed to regain the momentum.

In 2020, shipments abroad of primary cells and primary batteries increased by X% to X units, rising for the fourth year in a row after three years of decline. Over the period under review, exports recorded a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, exports hit record highs in 2020 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, battery exports expanded sharply to $X in 2020. Overall, exports recorded a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2020, exports remained at a lower figure.

Croatia (X units), Poland (X units) and Slovenia (X units) were the main destinations of battery exports from Hungary, together comprising X% of total exports. These countries were followed by Romania, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Germany, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Slovakia, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Poland ($X), Germany ($X) and Slovakia ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for battery exported from Hungary worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Slovakia recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2020, the average battery export price amounted to $X per unit, with a decrease of -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a perceptible shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010 an increase of X% y-o-y. As a result, export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2011 to 2020, the growth in terms of the average export prices failed to regain the momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Croatia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Hungary

Battery imports into Hungary shrank markedly to X units in 2020, with a decrease of -X% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a measured increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2020, the growth imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, battery imports declined to $X in 2020. In general, total imports indicated a measured increase from 2007 to 2020: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2019, and then contracted modestly in the following year.
