Exports from Hungary

For the third consecutive year, Hungary recorded decline in overseas shipments of preserved tomatoes, which decreased by X% to X tons in 2023. Overall, exports recorded a slight decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2023, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, preserved tomato exports contracted to $X in 2023. In general, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by X%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2023, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Serbia (X tons), Slovakia (X tons) and Croatia (X tons) were the main destinations of preserved tomato exports from Hungary, together accounting for X% of total exports.

Imports into Hungary

Preserved tomato imports into Hungary declined notably to X tons in 2023, reducing by X% against 2022 figures. In general, imports, however, showed a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, preserved tomato imports expanded markedly to $X in 2023. Overall, imports, however, saw a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2023 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

In 2023, Italy (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of preserved tomato to Hungary, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, preserved tomato imports from Italy exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), sixfold.

From 2012 to 2023, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Italy amounted to X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (X% per year) and Poland (X% per year).
