Malt Market Size in Hungary

In 2020, the Hungarian malt market increased by X% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 with an increase of X% year-to-year. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2009 to 2020, the growth of the market remained at a lower figure.

Malt Production in Hungary

In value terms, malt production reached $X in 2020 estimated in export prices. In general, production, however, showed a perceptible contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008 with an increase of X% year-to-year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2009 to 2020, production growth remained at a lower figure.

Malt Exports

Exports from Hungary

In 2020, shipments abroad of malt increased by X% to X tonnes, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. In general, exports, however, showed a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, malt exports totaled $X in 2020. Overall, exports, however, showed a perceptible shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2012 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Exports peaked at $X in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

Exports by Country

Romania (X tonnes) was the main destination for malt exports from Hungary, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, malt exports to Romania exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Italy (X tonnes), more than tenfold.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Romania was relatively modest.

In value terms, Romania ($X) remains the key foreign market for malt exports from Hungary, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Italy ($X), with a X% share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Romania stood at -X%.

Export Prices by Country

The average malt export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, almost unchanged from the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a slight downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008 an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, export price reached the peak level of $X per tonne. From 2009 to 2020, the growth in terms of the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Romania stood at $X per tonne.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania.

Malt Imports

Imports into Hungary

In 2020, supplies from abroad of malt increased by X% to X tonnes, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Overall, imports saw measured growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, malt imports expanded modestly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, imports showed tangible growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2012 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2020, Slovakia (X tonnes) constituted the largest malt supplier to Hungary, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, malt imports from Slovakia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Austria (X tonnes), threefold.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume from Slovakia amounted to +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Austria (+X% per year) and the Czech Republic (-X% per year).

In value terms, Slovakia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of malt to Hungary, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Austria ($X), with a X% share of total imports.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of value from Slovakia stood at +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Austria (-X% per year) and the Czech Republic (-X% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average malt import price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, flattening at the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008 when the average import price increased by X% year-to-year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per tonne. From 2009 to 2020, the growth in terms of the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per tonne), while the price for Austria ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovakia, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
