Carpet Market Size in Hungary

The Hungarian carpet market declined to $X in 2019, shrinking by -X% against the previous year. Overall, consumption continues to indicate a noticeable curtailment. In 2019, after six years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of carpets and other textile floor coverings, when their volume decreased by -X% to X tonnes. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a perceptible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, exports reached the peak of X tonnes, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, carpet exports reduced markedly to $X in 2019. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a pronounced increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. Exports peaked at $X in 2018, and then declined remarkably in the following year.

Exports by Country

Germany (X tonnes) was the main destination for carpet exports from Hungary, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, carpet exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Romania (X tonnes), threefold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Slovakia (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2019, the average annual growth rate of volume to Germany totaled +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Romania (+X% per year) and Slovakia (+X% per year).

In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the key foreign market for carpet exports from Hungary, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Romania ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2019, the average annual growth rate of value to Germany amounted to +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Romania (+X% per year) and France (+X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2019, the average carpet export price amounted to $X per tonne, declining by -X% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by X% year-to-year. As a result, export price reached the peak level of $X per tonne. From 2018 to 2019, the growth in terms of the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Finland ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Austria ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Hungary

Carpet imports into Hungary dropped modestly to X tonnes in 2019, reducing by -X% compared with 2018. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a moderate increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2019, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, carpet imports contracted to $X in 2019. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2019, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Turkey (X tonnes), the Netherlands (X tonnes) and Belgium (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of carpet imports to Hungary, with a combined X% share of total imports. Poland, Germany, Austria and Serbia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X 2007 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Serbia, while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Turkey ($X) and Germany ($X) constituted the largest carpet suppliers to Hungary, together accounting for X% of total imports. These countries were followed by Belgium, Poland, Austria and Serbia, which together accounted for a further X recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by X% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per tonne in 2010; however, from 2011 to 2019, import prices failed to regain the momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2019, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per tonne), while the price for Turkey ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
