Alcohols Market Size in Hungary

In 2020, the Hungarian alcohols market decreased by -X% to $X, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Alcohols consumption peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, consumption failed to regain the momentum.

Exports from Hungary

Alcohols exports from Hungary shrank markedly to X tonnes in 2020, dropping by -X% compared with 2019 figures. In general, exports continue to indicate a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2010 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. Exports peaked at X tonnes in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, alcohols exports shrank markedly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports saw a mild setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, exports reached the peak of $X. From 2012 to 2020, the growth exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Austria (X tonnes), Romania (X tonnes) and Slovakia (X tonnes) were the main destinations of alcohols exports from Hungary, together accounting for X% of total exports. These countries were followed by Ukraine, Serbia, Croatia, Italy, Russia, Poland, Japan, France and Bulgaria, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Russia (+X% per year), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for alcohols exported from Hungary were Romania ($X), Italy ($X) and Japan ($X), together comprising X% of total exports. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by X% year-to-year. As a result, export price reached the peak level of $X per tonne, and then dropped modestly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to France ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovakia, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of alcohols and their halogenated, sulphonated, nitrated or nitrosated derivatives decreased by -X% to X tonnes in 2020. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2010 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tonnes in 2019, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, alcohols imports shrank to $X in 2020. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of alcohols to Hungary, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Russia ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by Slovakia, with a X% share.

The import price peaked at $X per tonne in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, import prices failed to regain the momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per tonne), while the price for Serbia ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
