Synthetic Yarn Market Size in Greece

In 2020, after four years of growth, there was decline in the Greek synthetic yarn market, when its value decreased by -X% to $X. Overall, consumption saw a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the market value increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, synthetic yarn production expanded markedly to $X in 2020 estimated in export prices. In general, production saw a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level in 2020 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports from Greece

For the fifth year in a row, Greece recorded decline in overseas shipments of yarn of synthetic or artificial staple fibers, which decreased by -X% to X tonnes in 2020. Overall, exports saw a pronounced descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2009 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Exports peaked at X tonnes in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, synthetic yarn exports fell notably to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a noticeable descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2009 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports hit record highs at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

Exports by Country

Italy (X tonnes) was the main destination for synthetic yarn exports from Greece, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, synthetic yarn exports to Italy exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Bulgaria (X tonnes), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Spain (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Italy totaled -X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bulgaria (+X% per year) and Spain (+X% per year).

In value terms, Italy ($X), Bulgaria ($X) and Spain ($X) constituted the largest markets for synthetic yarn exported from Greece worldwide, together comprising X% of total exports.

Spain (+X% per year) recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average synthetic yarn export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, dropping by -X% against the previous year. Over the last thirteen years, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011 an increase of X% year-to-year. As a result, export price attained the peak level of $X per tonne. From 2012 to 2020, the growth in terms of the average export prices failed to regain the momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Bulgaria ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Italy ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bulgaria, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Synthetic Yarn Imports

Imports into Greece

In 2020, approx. X tonnes of yarn of synthetic or artificial staple fibers were imported into Greece; which is down by -X% against 2019 figures. Over the period under review, imports saw a abrupt shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, synthetic yarn imports declined rapidly to $X in 2020. In general, imports showed a abrupt decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Turkey (X tonnes), China (X tonnes) and Bulgaria (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of synthetic yarn imports to Greece, together comprising X% of total imports.

From 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Bulgaria, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, Turkey ($X), Italy ($X) and Bulgaria ($X) constituted the largest synthetic yarn suppliers to Greece, with a combined X% share of total imports.

In terms of the main suppliers, Bulgaria recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2011 an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per tonne. From 2012 to 2020, the growth in terms of the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per tonne), while the price for China ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
