In 2018, the amount of tobacco (smoking tobacco, chewing tobacco, snuff) exported from Greece amounted to X tonnes, reducing by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, tobacco exports, however, continue to indicate an outstanding increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. In that year, tobacco exports attained their peak of X tonnes, and then declined slightly in the following year.

Poland (X tonnes) was the main destination for tobacco exports from Greece, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, tobacco exports to Poland exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Tunisia (X tonnes), sixfold. Portugal (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Poland amounted to +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Tunisia (+X% per year) and Portugal (+X% per year).

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the key foreign market for tobacco exports from Greece, comprising X% of total tobacco exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Bulgaria ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Albania, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Poland totaled +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Bulgaria (+X% per year) and Albania (+X% per year).

In 2018, the average tobacco export price amounted to $X per tonne, waning by -X% against the previous year. Overall, the tobacco export price continues to indicate a mild downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2011 an increase of X% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2018, export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2018, the country with the highest price was Albania ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Tunisia ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2018, the tobacco imports into Greece totaled X tonnes, increasing by X% against the previous year. In general, the total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2007 to 2018: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2018 figures, tobacco imports decreased by -X% against 2016 indices. Poland (X tonnes), the Netherlands (X tonnes) and South Korea (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of tobacco imports to Greece, with a combined X% share of total imports. Myanmar, France, the UK, Malaysia and Bulgaria lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of imports, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Malaysia, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
