Tea Market Size in Greece

The revenue of the tea market in Greece amounted to $X in 2018, dropping by -X% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In 2018, the amount of tea exported from Greece stood at X tonnes, picking up by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, tea exports continue to indicate remarkable growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of X% against the previous year. In that year, tea exports attained their peak of X tonnes. From 2016 to 2018, the growth of tea exports failed to regain its momentum.

In value terms, tea exports amounted to $X in 2018. In general, tea exports continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2018, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Cyprus (X tonnes), France (X tonnes) and Bulgaria (X tonnes) were the main destinations of tea exports from Greece, with a combined X% share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of exports, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by France, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Cyprus ($X), France ($X) and Bulgaria ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for tea exported from Greece worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports.

Among the main countries of destination, France experienced the highest rates of growth with regard to exports, over the last eleven years, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2018, the average tea export price amounted to $X per tonne, dropping by -X% against the previous year. Overall, the tea export price continues to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008 when the average export price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices for tea reached their peak figure at $X per tonne in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2018, export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2018, the country with the highest price was France ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Bulgaria ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Greece

Tea imports into Greece stood at X tonnes in 2018, jumping by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, tea imports, however, continue to indicate a mild descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2008 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. In that year, tea imports reached their peak of X tonnes. From 2009 to 2018, the growth of tea imports failed to regain its momentum.

In value terms, tea imports stood at $X in 2018. Overall, tea imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008 with an increase of X% year-to-year. In that year, tea imports reached their peak of $X. From 2009 to 2018, the growth of tea imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2018, Poland (X tonnes) constituted the largest tea supplier to Greece, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, tea imports from Poland exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X tonnes), threefold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Italy (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual growth rate of volume from Poland totaled +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+X% per year) and Italy (+X% per year).

In value terms, Poland ($X) constituted the largest supplier of tea to Greece, comprising X% of total tea imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Sri Lanka ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Poland stood at +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Sri Lanka (-X% per year) and Germany (-X% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2018, the average tea import price amounted to $X per tonne, lowering by -X% against the previous year. Over the last eleven years, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2009 when the average import price increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, the average import prices for tea reached their peak figure at $X per tonne in 2017, and then declined slightly in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per tonne), while the price for the U.S. ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
