Preserved Peas Market Size in Greece

For the third consecutive year, the Greek preserved peas market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by X% to $X in 2020. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a slight increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2009 with an increase of X% y-o-y. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X. From 2010 to 2020, the growth of the market remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, preserved peas production reached $X in 2020 estimated in export prices. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the period from 2007 to 2020; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. In 2020, shipments abroad of preserved peas decreased by -X% to X tonnes, falling for the fifth consecutive year after three years of growth. Over the period under review, exports saw a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2010 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. Exports peaked at X tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, preserved peas exports shrank significantly to $X in 2020. Overall, exports recorded a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, exports reached the maximum at $X in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Cyprus (X tonnes), Hungary (X tonnes) and Bahamas (X tonnes) were the main destinations of preserved peas exports from Greece, together comprising X% of total exports.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Hungary, while exports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, the largest markets for preserved peas exported from Greece were Bahamas ($X), Cyprus ($X) and Hungary ($X), together accounting for X% of total exports.

Among the main countries of destination, Hungary saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

Export Prices by Country

In 2020, the average preserved peas export price amounted to $X per tonne, rising by X% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a measured increase from 2007 to 2020: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, preserved peas export price increased by +X% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2009 when the average export price increased by X% y-o-y. As a result, export price reached the peak level of $X per tonne. From 2010 to 2020, the growth in terms of the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Bahamas ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bahamas, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Greece

In 2020, purchases abroad of preserved peas was finally on the rise to reach X tonnes for the first time since 2017, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a drastic downturn. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, preserved peas imports soared to $X in 2020. In general, imports, however, saw a deep slump. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2020, Hungary (X tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of preserved peas to Greece, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, preserved peas imports from Hungary exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, France (X tonnes), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Italy (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Hungary amounted to +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+X% per year) and Italy (-X% per year).

The average preserved peas import price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, dropping by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average import price increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per tonne. From 2014 to 2020, the growth in terms of the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was France ($X per tonne), while the price for Italy ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
