The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2009 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, exports reached the maximum in 2020 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Cyprus (X tonnes), Albania (X tonnes) and Bulgaria (X tonnes) were the main destinations of paint and varnish exports from Greece, with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Turkey, Serbia, Russia, India, Romania, Israel, Marshall Islands, Malta, Georgia and Spain, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Spain (+X% per year), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Cyprus ($X), Turkey ($X) and Bulgaria ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for paint and varnish exported from Greece worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2009 an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average export prices hit record highs at $X per tonne in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Marshall Islands ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Albania ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Israel, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Greece

For the sixth consecutive year, Greece recorded growth in supplies from abroad of paints and varnishes, which increased by X% to X tonnes in 2020. Overall, imports, however, saw a mild descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, paint and varnish imports expanded markedly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a mild descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008 with an increase of X% y-o-y. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. from 2009 to 2020, the growth imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Italy (X tonnes), France (X tonnes) and Germany (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of paint and varnish imports to Greece, with a combined X% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, the UK, Spain, Belgium, Romania, Portugal, Poland and Croatia, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Romania, while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
