In 2021, the amount of concentrated grapefruit juice exported from Greece dropped to X tons, waning by -10.8% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 187%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, concentrated grapefruit juice exports contracted modestly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, posted a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 223%. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Bulgaria (X tons) was the main destination for concentrated grapefruit juice exports from Greece, with a 68% share of total exports. Moreover, concentrated grapefruit juice exports to Bulgaria exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Cyprus (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by New Caledonia (X tons), with a 3.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Bulgaria amounted to +53.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Cyprus (-6.1% per year) and New Caledonia (+2,540.0% per year).

In value terms, Bulgaria ($X) remains the key foreign market for concentrated grapefruit juice exports from Greece, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Cyprus ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by New Caledonia, with a 6.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Bulgaria stood at +60.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Cyprus (-10.6% per year) and New Caledonia (+2,589.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average concentrated grapefruit juice export price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 7.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a mild contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 135%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was New Caledonia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Cyprus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bulgaria (+4.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Greece

After two years of decline, overseas purchases of concentrated grapefruit juice increased by 88% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports enjoyed a temperate expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 169%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, concentrated grapefruit juice imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 268%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Swaziland (X tons), France (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main suppliers of concentrated grapefruit juice imports to Greece, with a combined 80% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in France (with a CAGR of +44.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Swaziland ($X) constituted the largest supplier of concentrated grapefruit juice to Greece, comprising 57% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Swaziland was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: France (+37.3% per year) and Italy (+14.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average concentrated grapefruit juice import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -18% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, concentrated grapefruit juice import price increased by +29.0% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 39%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2020, and then declined sharply in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for Latvia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Cyprus (+19.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
