Wooden Door Market Size in Ghana

For the third year in a row, the Ghanian wooden door market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 50% to $X in 2021. Overall, the total consumption indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, consumption increased by +55.3% against 2018 indices. As a result, consumption attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, shipments abroad of doors and their frames and thresholds of wood decreased by -38.2% to X units, falling for the fourth year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 543% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X units in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, wooden door exports shrank remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a sharp contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 505% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Togo (X units) was the main destination for wooden door exports from Ghana, with a 89% share of total exports. Moreover, wooden door exports to Togo exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Niger (X units), eightfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Togo amounted to -4.2%.

In value terms, the largest markets for wooden door exported from Ghana were Togo ($X) and Niger ($X).

Niger, with a CAGR of +27.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review.

Export Prices by Country

The average wooden door export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, shrinking by -7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a abrupt descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 186% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Niger ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Togo totaled $X per unit.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+20.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Wooden Door Imports

Imports into Ghana

For the third year in a row, Ghana recorded growth in purchases abroad of doors and their frames and thresholds of wood, which increased by 44% to X units in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2012; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

In value terms, wooden door imports soared to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of wooden door to Ghana, with a 53% share of total imports. Moreover, wooden door imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Turkey (X units), twofold. Spain (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China stood at +4.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+16.5% per year) and Spain (-8.0% per year).

In value terms, the largest wooden door suppliers to Ghana were China ($X), Turkey ($X) and Italy ($X), with a combined 67% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Israel, the Netherlands, Portugal, the UK, Spain, Austria, the United States, the United Arab Emirates and South Africa, which together accounted for a further 29%.

Among the main suppliers, Austria, with a CAGR of +73.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average wooden door import price stood at $X per unit in 2021, increasing by 3.5% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, wooden door import price decreased by -25.8% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 46%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per unit), while the price for China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+15.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
