Cottonseed Market Size in Ghana

The revenue of the cottonseed market in Ghana amounted to $X in 2018, jumping by X% against the previous year. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, cottonseed exports attained their maximum at X tonnes in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2018, exports failed to regain their momentum.

In value terms, cottonseed exports totaled $X in 2018. Over the period under review, cottonseed exports continue to indicate a sharp drop. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2012 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, cottonseed exports reached their peak figure at $X in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2018, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Italy (X tonnes), the U.S. (X tonnes) and Mali (X tonnes) were the main destinations of cottonseed exports from Ghana, with a combined X% share of total exports. Niger, Spain, Burkina Faso and Portugal lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of exports, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Niger, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Italy ($X), Spain ($X) and Portugal ($X) were the largest markets for cottonseed exported from Ghana worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Burkina Faso, Niger, the U.S. and Mali, which together accounted for a further X the main countries of destination, Niger (+X% per year) experienced the highest growth rate of exports, over the last eleven-year period, while the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

Export Prices by Country

In 2018, the average cottonseed export price amounted to $X per tonne, growing by X% against the previous year. Overall, the cottonseed export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of X% year-to-year. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2018, export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Portugal ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Mali ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Portugal, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Ghana

Cottonseed imports into Ghana amounted to X tonnes in 2018, reducing by -X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, cottonseed imports continue to indicate a precipitous contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, cottonseed imports reached their peak figure at X tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2018, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cottonseed imports amounted to $X in 2018. Overall, cottonseed imports continue to indicate a deep shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of X% against the previous year. In that year, cottonseed imports reached their peak of $X. From 2014 to 2018, the growth of cottonseed imports failed to regain its momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2018, Burkina Faso (X tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of cottonseed to Ghana, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, cottonseed imports from Burkina Faso exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Mali (X kg), fivefold.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual growth rate of volume from Burkina Faso totaled -X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Mali (-X% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (X% per year).

In value terms, Mali ($X) constituted the largest supplier of cottonseed to Ghana, comprising X% of total cottonseed imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Burkina Faso ($X), with a X% share of total imports.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Mali amounted to +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Burkina Faso (-X% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (X% per year).
