Uncoated Kraft Liner Market Size in Germany

In 2020, the German uncoated kraft liner market decreased by -X% to $X, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, consumption, however, saw a mild contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the market value increased by X% year-to-year. Uncoated kraft liner consumption peaked at $X in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, uncoated kraft liner exports declined to $X in 2020. In general, exports showed buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2010 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Exports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, exports remained at a lower figure.

France (X tonnes), Switzerland (X tonnes) and Poland (X tonnes) were the main destinations of uncoated kraft liner exports from Germany, together comprising X% of total exports. Austria, Italy, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Belgium, the Netherlands, Serbia, China, Bulgaria and Slovakia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Serbia (+X% per year), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for uncoated kraft liner exported from Germany were France ($X), Switzerland ($X) and Austria ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports. Poland, Italy, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Belgium, the Netherlands, Serbia, Bulgaria, China and Slovakia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further X saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average uncoated kraft liner export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, which is down by -X% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2011 when the average export price increased by X% year-to-year. As a result, export price attained the peak level of $X per tonne. From 2012 to 2020, the growth in terms of the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was France ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to China ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, uncoated kraft liner imports fell slightly to $X in 2020. In general, imports recorded a slight contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2010 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

In 2020, Sweden (X tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of uncoated kraft liner to Germany, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, uncoated kraft liner imports from Sweden exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Poland (X tonnes), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Austria (X tonnes), with a X% share.
