Tea Market Size in Germany

The revenue of the tea market in Germany amounted to $X in 2018, waning by -X% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In general, the total market indicated a resilient expansion from 2007 to 2018: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last eleven years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2008 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Exports peaked in 2018 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

The U.S. (X tonnes), France (X tonnes) and the UK (X tonnes) were the main destinations of tea exports from Germany, together accounting for X% of total exports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Denmark, Russia and Sweden, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of exports, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Switzerland, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, France ($X), the U.S. ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) were the largest markets for tea exported from Germany worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by the UK, Austria, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, Poland, Russia, Sweden and Denmark, which together accounted for a further X recorded the highest growth rate of exports, among the main countries of destination over the last eleven years, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The average tea export price stood at $X per tonne in 2018, rising by X% against the previous year. Over the last eleven-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of X% y-o-y. In that year, the average export prices for tea attained their peak level of $X per tonne. From 2017 to 2018, the growth in terms of the average export prices for tea failed to regain its momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2018, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Poland ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Germany

In 2018, the amount of tea imported into Germany stood at X tonnes, lowering by -X% against the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2007 to 2018; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, tea imports attained their maximum at X tonnes in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2018, imports failed to regain their momentum.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
