In value terms, Lithuania ($X), Uzbekistan ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) constituted the largest markets for melon seed exported from Germany worldwide, together accounting for 36% of total exports. These countries were followed by Ukraine, Switzerland, Finland, Ireland, France, Denmark, Estonia, Luxembourg and Poland, which together accounted for a further 29%.
Among the main countries of destination, Luxembourg, with a CAGR of +64.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average melon seed export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 8.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 128%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+28.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Germany
In 2021, overseas purchases of melon seed increased by 62% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Over the period under review, imports posted significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 227% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, melon seed imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 163% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Turkey (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of melon seed to Germany, accounting for a 46% share of total imports. Moreover, melon seed imports from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Syrian Arab Republic (X tons), twofold. Lebanon (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.8% share.

In value terms, Turkey ($X) constituted the largest supplier of melon seed to Germany, comprising 35% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Syrian Arab Republic ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 16% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Turkey amounted to +121.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Syrian Arab Republic (+13.0% per year) and the Netherlands (+103.2% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average melon seed import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 79%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per ton), while the price for Lebanon ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
