Alumina Market Size in Germany

The German alumina market shrank to $X in 2020, falling by -X% against the previous year. In general, consumption saw a slight reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Alumina consumption peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, consumption failed to regain the momentum.

Over the period under review, total exports indicated moderate growth from 2007 to 2020: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, exports decreased by -X% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports reached the maximum at X tonnes in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, alumina exports reached $X in 2020. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the period from 2007 to 2020; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of X% y-o-y. As a result, exports reached the peak of $X. from 2018 to 2020, the growth exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

The Netherlands (X tonnes), Poland (X tonnes) and France (X tonnes) were the main destinations of alumina exports from Germany, with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Hungary, Norway, Italy, China, Austria, the U.S., South Korea, the UK, Russia and Switzerland, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Hungary, while exports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for alumina exported from Germany were China ($X), France ($X) and the U.S. ($X), together accounting for X% of total exports. These countries were followed by South Korea, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Hungary, Russia, the UK, Norway, Austria and Switzerland, which together accounted for a further X terms of the main countries of destination, Norway recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average alumina export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, rising by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a mild descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the average export price increased by X% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2020, export prices failed to regain the momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was the U.S. ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Switzerland ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2020, purchases abroad of alumina decreased by -X% to X tonnes, falling for the third consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports showed a pronounced reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, alumina imports dropped markedly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, imports recorded a mild slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.
