In value terms, aircraft production contracted to $X in 2023 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the production volume increased by X%. Aircraft production peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2023, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Germany

In 2023, approx. X units of airplanes and other aircraft were exported from Germany; rising by X% against 2022. Overall, exports posted a tangible increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2023, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, aircraft exports dropped to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, exports posted moderate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by X%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2023, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Bangladesh (X units) was the main destination for aircraft exports from Germany, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, aircraft exports to Bangladesh exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United States (X units), twofold. Sweden (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2023, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Bangladesh stood at X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (X% per year) and Sweden (X% per year).

In value terms, Sweden ($X), Bangladesh ($X) and the United States ($X) were the largest markets for aircraft exported from Germany worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Sweden, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2023, the average aircraft export price amounted to $X per unit, declining by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a mild expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by X% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2023, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Costa Rica ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Aircraft Imports

Imports into Germany

After seven years of growth, overseas purchases of airplanes and other aircraft decreased by X% to X units in 2023. In general, imports saw a perceptible descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2022 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units, and then reduced sharply in the following year.

In value terms, aircraft imports fell notably to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a modest expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2022, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

Imports by Country

South Africa (X units), the United States (X units) and Ukraine (X units) were the main suppliers of aircraft imports to Germany, together comprising X% of total imports. Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Slovenia, Norway, Italy and Austria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.

From 2012 to 2023, the biggest increases were recorded for the Czech Republic (with a CAGR of X%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States ($X) constituted the largest supplier of airplanes and other aircraft to Germany, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Africa ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by Slovakia, with a X% share.

From 2012 to 2023, the average annual growth rate of value from the United States stood at X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: South Africa (X% per year) and Slovakia (X% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average aircraft import price stood at $X per unit in 2023, increasing by X% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a measured expansion from 2012 to 2023: its price increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2023, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X,088 per unit), while the price for Ukraine ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Norway (X%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
