Radar Apparatus Market Size in GCC

In 2021, the GCC radar apparatus market increased by 14% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, consumption recorded a mild reduction. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, radar apparatus production declined significantly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, recorded resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 159%. Over the period under review, production reached the peak level at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in GCC

In 2021, overseas shipments of radar apparatus, radio navigational aid apparatus and radio remote control apparatus increased by 41% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a pronounced contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 194%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, radar apparatus exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 259%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

The United Arab Emirates was the key exporting country with an export of about X tons, which accounted for 79% of total exports. Oman (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Saudi Arabia (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 18% share of total exports. Bahrain (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

Exports from the United Arab Emirates decreased at an average annual rate of -4.9% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Bahrain (+13.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bahrain emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in GCC, with a CAGR of +13.4% from 2012-2021. Oman experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Saudi Arabia (-6.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Oman and Bahrain increased by +3.9 and +1.9 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the United Arab Emirates ($X) remains the largest radar apparatus supplier in GCC, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Oman ($X), with a 6.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with a 4.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the United Arab Emirates stood at +9.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Oman (+10.2% per year) and Saudi Arabia (-6.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in GCC stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 45% against the previous year. Overall, the export price enjoyed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the export price increased by 48%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Bahrain ($X per ton), while Oman ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+15.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in GCC

In 2021, overseas purchases of radar apparatus, radio navigational aid apparatus and radio remote control apparatus increased by 9.3% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, showed a deep contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 29%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, radar apparatus imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 115% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

The United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Saudi Arabia (X tons) prevails in imports structure, together making up 84% of total imports. Oman (X tons) took a 5.8% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Qatar (4.7%). Kuwait (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Kuwait (with a CAGR of -1.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

In value terms, the largest radar apparatus importing markets in GCC were the United Arab Emirates ($X), Saudi Arabia ($X) and Oman ($X), with a combined 89% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Qatar and Kuwait, which together accounted for a further 8.9%.

Among the main importing countries, Kuwait, with a CAGR of +6.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline in the imports figures.

In 2021, the import price in GCC amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 30% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a perceptible descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the import price increased by 70%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
