T-Shirt Market Size in France

For the third consecutive year, the French t-shirt market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by X% to $X in 2020. Overall, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. T-shirt consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, consumption failed to regain the momentum.

Exports from France

After two years of growth, shipments abroad of t-shirts decreased by -X% to X units in 2020. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a pronounced increase from 2007 to 2020: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, exports increased by +X% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, exports attained the peak of X units, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, t-shirt exports contracted to $X in 2020. In general, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2012 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019, and then reduced in the following year.

Exports by Country

Spain (X units) was the main destination for t-shirt exports from France, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, t-shirt exports to Spain exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Italy (X units), twofold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Germany (X units), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume to Spain amounted to +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Italy (+X% per year) and Germany (+X% per year).

In value terms, Italy ($X), Spain ($X) and Germany ($X) were the largest markets for t-shirt exported from France worldwide, with a combined X% share of total exports. The UK, Belgium, Hong Kong SAR, the U.S., the Netherlands, Poland, Singapore, Portugal and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X the main countries of destination, Singapore saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average t-shirt export price stood at $X per unit in 2020, picking up by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Hungary ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2020, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of t-shirts, when their volume decreased by -X% to X units. Overall, imports recorded a mild decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, t-shirt imports dropped to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin; the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per unit), while the price for India ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
