Pulses Market Size in France

The revenue of the pulses market in France amounted to $X in 2018, waning by -X% against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +X% from 2007 to 2018; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Belgium (X tonnes), India (X tonnes) and Norway (X tonnes) were the main destinations of pulses exports from France, together comprising X% of total exports. Egypt, China, the Netherlands and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of exports, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by China, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2018, export prices failed to regain their momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2018, the countries with the highest prices were Belgium ($X per tonne) and Italy ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to China ($X per tonne) and India ($X per tonne) were amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Pulses Imports

Imports into France

In 2018, the amount of pulses imported into France amounted to X tonnes, rising by X% against the previous year. In general, pulses imports continue to indicate perceptible growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, pulses imports reached their peak figure in 2018 and are expected to retain its growth in the near future.

In value terms, pulses imports totaled $X in 2018. Overall, the total imports indicated a temperate expansion from 2007 to 2018: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2018 figures, pulses imports increased by +X% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2017, and then declined slightly in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2018, Sweden (X tonnes) constituted the largest pulses supplier to France, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, pulses imports from Sweden exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belgium (X tonnes), threefold. Latvia (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total imports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual growth rate of volume from Sweden amounted to +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (-X% per year) and Latvia (+X% per year).

China, the U.S., Turkey, Hungary, the Netherlands, Italy, Latvia, Spain and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X the main suppliers, Latvia recorded the highest growth rate of imports, over the last eleven years, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The average pulses import price stood at $X per tonne in 2018, waning by -X% against the previous year. Overall, the pulses import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008 an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average import prices for pulses attained their peak figure at $X per tonne in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2018, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2018, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per tonne), while the price for Latvia ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
