Synthetic Yarn Market Size in Finland

For the fourth consecutive year, the Finnish synthetic yarn market recorded decline in sales value, which decreased by -X% to $X in 2020. In general, consumption recorded a abrupt curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Synthetic yarn consumption peaked at $X in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2020, consumption failed to regain the momentum.

Synthetic Yarn Production in Finland

In value terms, synthetic yarn production dropped to $X in 2020 estimated in export prices. Over the period under review, production continues to indicate a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2011 when the production volume increased by X% y-o-y. Synthetic yarn production peaked at $X in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, production failed to regain the momentum.

Synthetic Yarn Exports

Exports from Finland

Synthetic yarn exports from Finland dropped rapidly to X tonnes in 2020, shrinking by -X% on the previous year's figure. Overall, exports showed a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2011 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, exports reached the maximum at X tonnes in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, synthetic yarn exports contracted significantly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2010 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. Exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2020, exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Russia (X tonnes) was the main destination for synthetic yarn exports from Finland, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, synthetic yarn exports to Russia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Estonia (X tonnes), fivefold. Sweden (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Russia stood at +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Estonia (-X% per year) and Sweden (-X% per year).

In value terms, Russia ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for synthetic yarn exports from Finland, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Estonia ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Sweden, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of value to Russia totaled +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Estonia (-X% per year) and Sweden (-X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average synthetic yarn export price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, surging by X% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated buoyant growth from 2007 to 2020: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, synthetic yarn export price increased by +X% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 when the average export price increased by X% y-o-y. The export price peaked in 2020 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Lithuania ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Synthetic Yarn Imports

Imports into Finland

In 2020, purchases abroad of yarn of synthetic or artificial staple fibers decreased by -X% to X tonnes, falling for the fourth consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a deep reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tonnes in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, synthetic yarn imports fell to $X in 2020. Overall, imports showed a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2010 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Turkey (X tonnes), Germany (X tonnes) and Italy (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of synthetic yarn imports to Finland, with a combined X% share of total imports. The UK, India, China and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in India, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest synthetic yarn suppliers to Finland were Turkey ($X), Germany ($X) and Italy ($X), together comprising X% of total imports. The UK, China, Belgium and India lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2020, the average synthetic yarn import price amounted to $X per tonne, picking up by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2011 when the average import price increased by X% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per tonne in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2020, import prices failed to regain the momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was China ($X per tonne), while the price for India ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
