In 2021, after two years of growth, there was decline in overseas shipments of rice, when their volume decreased by -X% to X tonnes. Overall, exports saw a slight slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tonnes in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, rice exports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports saw mild growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Estonia (X tonnes) was the main destination for rice exports from Finland, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, rice exports to Estonia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Sweden (X tonnes), fourfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Estonia was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Sweden (+X% per year) and Russia (-X% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for rice exported from Finland were Estonia ($X), Sweden ($X) and Russia ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports.
Sweden, with a CAGR of +X%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2021, the average rice export price amounted to $X per tonne, surging by X% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last nine-year period. In 2021, overseas purchases of rice increased by X% to X tonnes, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
In value terms, rice imports totaled $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Italy (X tonnes), Spain (X tonnes) and Poland (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of rice imports to Finland, together comprising X% of total imports.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per tonne in 2013; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per tonne), while the price for Spain ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+X%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
