Playing Cards Exports

Exports in Europe

After two years of growth, shipments abroad of playing cards decreased by -17.4% to X tons in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 45%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons, and then fell notably in the following year.

In value terms, playing cards exports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 43%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Belgium (X tons), distantly followed by the Netherlands (X tons), Germany (X tons), Greece (X tons), Poland (X tons), Italy (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) represented the key exporters of playing cards, together making up 86% of total exports. The following exporters - Spain (X tons) and the UK (X tons) - each recorded a 5.4% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Greece (with a CAGR of +69.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Belgium ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together comprising 65% of total exports. Poland, the Czech Republic, the UK, Greece, Italy and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 24%.

Greece, with a CAGR of +61.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the export price in Europe amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 11% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 13%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Greece ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+6.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the seventh year in a row, Europe recorded growth in supplies from abroad of playing cards, which increased by 5.8% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 43%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In value terms, playing cards imports expanded sharply to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 67% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

The countries with the highest levels of playing cards imports in 2022 were Germany (X tons), the UK (X tons), France (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons), together amounting to 56% of total import. The Czech Republic (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Italy (X tons). All these countries together held near 11% share of total imports. The following importers - Spain (X tons), Poland (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Greece (X tons), Ireland (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Denmark (X tons) - together made up 23% of total imports.

The import price in Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 3.5% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.4%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 35% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+9.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
