In 2022, the average hemp tow yield in Europe declined to X tons per ha, reducing by X% on the previous year's figure. Overall, the yield saw a mild slump. The level of yield peaked at X tons per ha in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the yield failed to regain momentum. Hemp Tow Exports
Exports in Europe
In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of hemp tow, when their volume decreased by X% to X tons. Overall, exports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, hemp tow exports dropped markedly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted significantly in the following year.
Exports by Country
The Netherlands dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tons) and Romania (X tons), together committing a X% share of total exports. Germany (X tons), Russia (X tons), Ukraine (X tons) and Lithuania (X tons) held a little share of total exports.
Exports from the Netherlands increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Ukraine (X%), Romania (X%), Russia (X%), Lithuania (X%), Belgium (X%) and Germany (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Ukraine emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of the Netherlands, Romania, Russia, Ukraine and Lithuania increased by X, X, X, X and X percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the largest hemp tow supplier in Europe, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belgium ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a X% share.

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Romania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lithuania (X%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in Europe
In 2022, hemp tow imports in Europe surged to X tons, picking up by X% against 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports posted a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of X%. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
In value terms, hemp tow imports stood at $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Spain (X tons) represented the largest importer of hemp tow, constituting X% of total imports. Germany (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by the Czech Republic (X tons), Denmark (X tons), the UK (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and France (X tons). From 2021 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while Denmark ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
