Imports in the EU
In 2021, supplies from abroad of zirconium ores and concentrates increased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, zirconium ore and concentrate imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a slight descent. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Spain represented the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which amounted to X% of total imports. Italy (X tons) held a X% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by the Netherlands (X%), Belgium (X%) and France (X%).
