Portugal (X tons), Poland (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Romania (X tons), Croatia (X tons) and Sweden (X tons) held a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Belgium (with a CAGR of +33.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest wood pellets supplying countries in the European Union were Latvia ($X), Estonia ($X) and Austria ($X), together comprising 40% of total exports. In 2021, overseas purchases of wood pellets increased by 8.7% to X tons, rising for the sixth consecutive year after two years of decline. Total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +82.0% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In 2021, Denmark (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Italy (X tons) represented the largest importer of wood pellets in the European Union, mixing up 64% of total import. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tons), France (X tons) and Latvia (X tons), together making up a 17% share of total imports. Austria (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in France (with a CAGR of +43.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
