Wooden Window Market Size in the EU

In 2021, the EU wooden window market was finally on the rise to reach $X after two years of decline. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a pronounced shrinkage. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, wooden window production shrank slightly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a mild decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the production volume increased by 6.8% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

After two years of decline, shipments abroad of windows, french windows and their frames of wood increased by 1.2% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 36%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, wooden window exports rose rapidly to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In 2021, Germany (X tons), distantly followed by Hungary (X tons), Slovakia (X tons), Denmark (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Austria (X tons) represented the major exporters of windows, french windows and their frames of wood, together achieving 86% of total exports. Poland (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Belgium (with a CAGR of +31.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, rising by 12% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 95%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while Slovakia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+46.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Wooden window imports rose sharply to X tons in 2021, growing by 5.7% compared with 2020. Total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +85.8% against 2012 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 25% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, wooden window imports amounted to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +58.0% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 34%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Germany was the key importer of windows, french windows and their frames of wood in the European Union, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 34% of total imports in 2021. Denmark (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Belgium (X tons), France (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Sweden (X tons). All these countries together held near 45% share of total imports. The following importers - Italy (X tons), Hungary (X tons), Ireland (X tons), Austria (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Romania (X tons) - together made up 15% of total imports.

Germany was also the fastest-growing in terms of the windows, french windows and their frames of wood imports, with a CAGR of +17.9% from 2012 to 2021. France experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Germany (+19 p.p.), Belgium (+3.8 p.p.) and the Netherlands (+1.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Italy, Denmark and France saw its share reduced by -1.9%, -8.1% and -8.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Denmark ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 53% share of total imports.

The Netherlands, with a CAGR of +16.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, surging by 6% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 12%. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
