In 2021, the EU glass fiber market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In 2021, the amount of voiles, webs, mats and other articles of glass fibers exported in the European Union expanded markedly to X tons, growing by 11% against the year before. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, glass fiber exports soared to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Belgium (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the largest exporters of voiles, webs, mats and other articles of glass fibers in the European Union, together accounting for approx. 42% of total exports. The Czech Republic (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Spain (X tons), France (X tons), Poland (X tons), Italy (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons). All these countries together held near 40% share of total exports.

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 6.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a mild contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 7.2%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+1.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, France (X tons), distantly followed by Germany (X tons), Poland (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Spain (X tons), Italy (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the largest importers of voiles, webs, mats and other articles of glass fibers, together generating 69% of total imports. Denmark (X tons), Austria (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Sweden (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Slovakia (with a CAGR of +11.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Slovakia, with a CAGR of +10.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
