In 2021, the amount of voiles, webs, mats and other articles of glass fibers exported in the European Union expanded markedly to X tons, growing by 11% against the year before. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, glass fiber exports soared to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Belgium (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the largest exporters of voiles, webs, mats and other articles of glass fibers in the European Union, together accounting for approx. 42% of total exports. The Czech Republic (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Spain (X tons), France (X tons), Poland (X tons), Italy (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons). All these countries together held near 40% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Germany (with a CAGR of +9.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest glass fiber supplier in the European Union, comprising 27% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belgium ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with a 9.4% share.
In Germany, glass fiber exports increased at an average annual rate of +10.1% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belgium (+3.9% per year) and France (+3.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 6.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a mild contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 7.2%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+1.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, approx. X tons of voiles, webs, mats and other articles of glass fibers were imported in the European Union; rising by 16% against the year before. Total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +65.1% against 2012 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, glass fiber imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, France (X tons), distantly followed by Germany (X tons), Poland (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Spain (X tons), Italy (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the largest importers of voiles, webs, mats and other articles of glass fibers, together generating 69% of total imports. Denmark (X tons), Austria (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Sweden (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Slovakia (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Slovakia (with a CAGR of +11.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest glass fiber importing markets in the European Union were Germany ($X), France ($X) and Italy ($X), with a combined 46% share of total imports. Poland, Spain, Denmark, the Netherlands, Sweden, Belgium, Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 42%.
Slovakia, with a CAGR of +10.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 7.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a mild descent. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
