The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 13% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, uncoated kraft liner exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2021, Sweden (X tons) was the largest exporter of uncoated kraft liner, generating 37% of total exports. Finland (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 13% share, followed by Poland (11%), Austria (8.3%), France (8.3%), Portugal (5.7%), the Netherlands (4.9%) and Belgium (4.7%).

In value terms, Sweden ($X) remains the largest uncoated kraft liner supplier in the European Union, comprising 34% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Finland ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Poland, with a 10% share.

In Sweden, uncoated kraft liner exports increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Finland (+21.2% per year) and Poland (+2.8% per year).

In 2021, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, surging by 26% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 5.5% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

In value terms, uncoated kraft liner imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Germany (X tons), distantly followed by Italy (X tons), Spain (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and France (X tons) were the key importers of uncoated kraft liner, together achieving 77% of total imports. Poland (X tons), Denmark (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons), Finland (X tons), Austria (X tons) and Greece (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.

Greece, with a CAGR of +7.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the import price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 23% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
