Over the period under review, the yield, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the yield increased by X% against the previous year. Exports in the EU
In 2022, shipments abroad of sugar beet decreased by X% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a five-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, sugar beet exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a tangible increase. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Germany represented the largest exporter of sugar beet in the European Union, with the volume of exports amounting to X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2022. Belgium (X tons) took a X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Slovakia (X%), Hungary (X%) and the Netherlands (X%). The following exporters - Lithuania (X tons) and Latvia (X tons) - each accounted for a X% share of total exports.
Exports from Germany increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Lithuania (X%), Latvia (X%), Slovakia (X%) and Belgium (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Lithuania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the European Union, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Hungary (X%) and the Netherlands (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Germany (X p.p.), Slovakia (X p.p.), Lithuania (X p.p.) and Latvia (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Hungary and the Netherlands saw its share reduced by X% and X% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Germany ($X) remains the largest sugar beet supplier in the European Union, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Slovakia ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Belgium, with an X% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Germany stood at X%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Slovakia (X% per year) and Belgium (X% per year).

In 2022, the export price in the European Union amounted to $X per ton, growing by X% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight setback. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lithuania (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, purchases abroad of sugar beet increased by X% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Total imports indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by X% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of X%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, sugar beet imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
The Czech Republic represented the largest importing country with an import of about X tons, which finished at X% of total imports. Croatia (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Lithuania (X tons), Belgium (X tons), Hungary (X tons) and Denmark (X tons). All these countries together took approx. X% share of total imports. The Netherlands (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.
Imports into the Czech Republic increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Denmark (X%), Lithuania (X%), Hungary (X%) and Belgium (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Denmark emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the European Union, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Croatia (X%) and the Netherlands (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of the Czech Republic (X p.p.), Lithuania (X p.p.), Hungary (X p.p.), Denmark (X p.p.) and Belgium (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Croatia (X p.p.) and the Netherlands (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, the largest sugar beet importing markets in the European Union were the Czech Republic ($X), Denmark ($X) and Hungary ($X), with a combined X% share of total imports.
Denmark, with a CAGR of X%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the European Union stood at $X per ton in 2022, remaining stable against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per ton), while Croatia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
