In value terms, sorbitol exports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by X%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

France prevails in exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. X% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Germany (X tons), constituting a X% share of total exports. The following exporters - Italy (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) - together made up X% of total exports.

France was also the fastest-growing in terms of the sorbitol (excluding d-glucitol) exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, the Netherlands (X%) and Italy (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Belgium (X%) and Germany (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of France (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Italy (X p.p.), Belgium (X p.p.) and Germany (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the export price increased by X% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while France ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, imports of sorbitol (excluding d-glucitol) in the European Union shrank to X tons, almost unchanged from 2021 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then dropped slightly in the following year.

In value terms, sorbitol imports rose notably to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The purchases of the four major importers of sorbitol (excluding d-glucitol), namely Poland, Germany, Spain and Italy, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Slovakia (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an X% share, followed by Belgium (X%). Bulgaria (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Austria (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Slovakia (with a CAGR of X%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest sorbitol importing markets in the European Union were Spain ($X), Poland ($X) and Germany ($X), together comprising X% of total imports. Italy, Slovakia, Belgium, Bulgaria, the Netherlands and Austria lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X%.

Slovakia, with a CAGR of X%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
